Use it for procurement control of safety-critical components in aerospace, defense and similar sectors, compliant purchasing of end-of-life and scarce parts, counterfeit recognition in incoming inspection, and supplier and distributor audits. High-risk signals include discontinued parts, unauthorized distributors, abnormally low prices and unclear batch provenance; the higher the risk level, the stricter the controls, including third-party laboratory testing when necessary.
Register each part with its application criticality, sourcing channel and availability; the tool scores these dimensions into a risk level with matched controls such as increased sampling, third-party testing or prohibition, and generates a prevention list plus inspection record templates. Keep the full traceability chain (certificate of conformance, batch, test reports); when a suspected counterfeit is found, quarantine it, report through the AS5553 process, notify stakeholders and trace the same-batch flow.
There is no single formula: the risk level is a function of application criticality, channel legitimacy and scarcity signals, and the controls escalate with it — including combining destructive and non-destructive methods such as X-ray, decapsulation and electrical comparison for high-risk parts. All evidence, from package photos to test curves and supplier documents, should be retained as a complete evidence chain.
