Electrostatic discharge is one of the largest hidden loss sources in electronics, and protection programs are built to ANSI/ESD S20.20 or IEC 61340-5-1. The core is an electrostatic protected area (EPA) with systematic control of personnel, equipment, materials and environment, covering grounding, wrist straps and footwear, ionizers, ESD-safe packaging and signage. The checklist can be printed as a table for floor posting and internal audit records.
Use it when setting up a new EPA, running monthly or quarterly ESD compliance audits, preparing for a customer ESD audit, or performing focused checks on lines handling electrostatic-discharge-sensitive devices such as MOSFETs and ICs. For sensitive-device lines, also verify that packaging ESD labels match the required protection level and that test instruments are within calibration.
Generate the checklist, walk each item in the EPA, and record the result against the pass criterion provided for every item. Items cover zone boundaries and signage, workbench and mat grounding resistance, wrist strap function, ionizer balance and discharge time, ESD-safe packaging and handling, personnel training records and grounding system test intervals. Print the scored result as an audit record and track corrective actions to closure.
A key criterion is the wrist strap system resistance to ground: per ANSI/ESD S20.20 it must be between 1×10^6 and 3.5×10^7 Ω and is checked daily. Another example: when relative humidity falls below 40% RH, static risk rises sharply, so humidification or ionizers are required. All grounding paths should ultimately terminate at a common grounding bar.
